Description
John Mockett Cramp was born in St. Peter's, Isle of Thanet, England, on July 25, 1796. The son of a Baptist minister, he was educated at Canterbury and ordained at Stepney Theological Institute in London. In 1844, Cramp was offered the presidency of the Canada Baptist College in Montreal. In 1849, the College failed because there was not enough denominational support, and in the following year he was chosen as the president of Acadia College. Cramp resigned from the presidency in 1853 to head the Theological Institute of Acadia, but he was renamed president in 1860. He retired in 1869 and spent his retirement writing. Cramp died in Wolfville on December 6, 1881.
