Description
George Hill, from Nova Scotia, was the Private Secretary of Sir Adams G. Archibald, Lt. Gov. of Manitoba and the Northwest. Hill accompanied Sir Archibald on his first visit to the Northwest in 1870. An item from the “Christian Messenger”, June 29, 1870 states: We are glad to learn that His Honor, Governor Archibald, has appointed our esteemed young fellow citizen, Mr. George Hill, son of the Rev. Rector of St. Pauls, as his Private Secretary. We are informed that there were a hundred and twenty nine applicants for the situation from all parts of the Dominion, and we must all feel how truly Mr. Archibald has acted in electing a Nova Scotian."
